The Ziffren Center for Media, Entertainment, Technology and Sports Law hosted its third annual One Year Out panel on September 26, bringing recent alumni back into the fold to talk to current students about launching careers in entertainment law.

The panelists included Elda Boulgourjian of Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman; Dan Breslauer of content production firm Fremantle US; Lucas Hawley of Newhouse Porter Hubbard; Ben Ryzak of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips; and Payvand Vafa of DLA Piper. Graham Fenton '20, co-president of the school's Entertainment Law Association, served as moderator.

While panelists praised the courses they took from faculty including Susan Akens, director of the Ziffren Center, Boulgourjian and others emphasized the importance of experiential learning through internships, externships and networking with professionals.

"Through internships, and especially at your first job after law school, you gain a lot of learning from experience, like getting thrown into the deep end and learning how to swim," Hawley said.

Following the panel, students attended a networking reception with the panelists.
