The A. Barry Cappello Trial Team at UCLA School of Law ranks as the third-best trial team in the nation, according to the 2018-19 Trial Competition Performance Rankings compiled by Professor Adam Shlahet and the Fordham University School of Law.
The rankings are based on a formula that rewards schools every time their trial team finishes in first or second place at a competition. The UCLA Law team was the highest-ranked team on the West Coast in 2018-19, and the highest-ranked among all schools in the U.S. News' Top 20.
All of the other schools with top 10 trial teams competed in far more tournaments, in some cases twice as many, as UCLA Law.
"This achievement is like playing only half the season, but still hitting the third-most home runs in baseball," said Cappello program director Justin Bernstein. "The best thing about these results is that they weren't earned by just one student or even one UCLA team. Our entire program contributed to this ranking."
The 2018-19 team included Blake Berich '21, Brittnee Bui '20, Kyle DeCamp '19, Nick Dyess '21, Jack Eyers '21, Adrian Ferrari '19, Margret Flodeen '19, Delaney Gold-Diamond '21, Ian Grady '19, Ian Jong '19, Kian Khajooei '20, Deeksha Kohli '20, Michael Mosher '20, Katherine Pappas '19, Shalaka Phadnis '19, Corinne Peters '20, Tiffany Sarchet '21, Haley Silvano '20, Connor Trafton '19, Mikayla Wasiri '20, Aidan Welsh '19 and Corey Wilson '20.
