The UCLA School of Law trial team finished its stellar 2018-2019 season as a quarterfinalist at the American Association of Justice's Student Trial Advocacy Competition national championship tournament in Philadelphia on April 10. The team won AAJ's western regional tournament in order to qualify for the finals.
At nationals, the Bruins defeated teams from Harvard University, Drexel University and the University of Akron before losing a close trial against Stetson University.
The team comprised Kyle DeCamp '19, Kian Khajooei '20, Aidan Welsh '19 and Delaney Gold-Diamond '21. Justin Bernstein, the director of UCLA Law's A. Barry Cappello Program in Trial Advocacy, coached the team along with J.D. Rees III '14, an associate at Sheppard Mullin.
2018-19 was the strongest season in the history of the UCLA Law trial program. UCLA Law made the playoffs at all seven tournaments it entered, qualified for two national tournaments, reached five final rounds and won three competitions. In total, the program won 35 of its 42 trials.
