The Promise Institute Europe launches a groundbreaking partnership on ecocide law
On February 12, the UCLA Law Promise Institute Europe launched the Ecocide Law Advisory at the T.M.C. Asser Institute in the Hague.
Ecocide Law Advisory is a partnership between the Promise Institute Europe and Climate Counsel to provide expert legal advice and training on the drafting and implementation of ecocide laws. To date, advice has been provided to national law makers in Belgium, Brazil, Iceland, the Netherlands, Scotland, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Members of the parliament of the European Union have also received advice on the revision of the EU Environmental Crimes Directive.
At the launch, the Promise Institute Europe also presented the “Manual for a National Criminalisation of Ecocide,” which has been put together by a working group consisting of 15 experts including Kate Mackintosh, who is the founding executive director of the Promise Institute Europe.
