Making a smooth transition from big law firms to entertainment boutiques was the topic for an alum and a colleague who came to UCLA Law on January 30 to participate in the Ziffren Center's Supplemental Practical Legal Education (SPLE) program.

Allen Secretov '14 and Daniela Spencer, entertainment litigators from Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert, highlighted the pros and cons of both settings, noting the more sophisticated training programs of big firms and the chance to do more meaningful work more quickly at boutiques. Bigger firms offer more resources and oversight than smaller boutiques. In turn, boutiques allow associates the flexibility of experiential training, greater responsibilities and more client interaction.

Secretov and Spencer also advised students on the importance of networking, organization and developing research skills in career advancement. The two concluded with a brief Q-&-A on the deciding factors when selecting the firms that might be the best fit for different individuals.
