Lecturer in Law
Michelle Sherman is a Lecturer in Law at UCLA School of Law and teaches Legal Analysis and Communication in the Master of Legal Studies program, and Legal Research, Writing and Analysis for LL.M students (Law 406). From 2010 – 2017, Sherman focused her research, writing and public speaking on legal issues surrounding social media use by businesses and their employees, and also the use of social media in litigation. Sherman was the editor and writer for an Am Law 100 firm legal blog dedicated to social media, and is the author of Winning with Social Media: A Desktop Guide for Lawyers Using Social Media in Litigation and Trial, 2017 (NITA® editor/publisher).
Sherman worked as a litigation attorney for over 25 years, with a career that included being a partner at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton; representing indigent clients as an assistant public defender in Los Angeles; and working as a senior corporate counsel at Farmers Insurance. Teaching has always been a passion for Sherman from teaching trial skills to attorneys for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA), to teaching graduate and undergraduate classes as an adjunct professor at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in their Public Relations program. Sherman was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Smith College, where she majored in Psychology. She received her JD from UCLA School of Law, and graduated Order of the Coif.
Her articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, California Lawyer Magazine, Journal of Internet Law, and Cyberspace Lawyer, among others.
