Special Topics in Family Law
This course explores contemporary issues in family law. This class will look at issues that surround legally recognized family relations and how the state regulates those relationships. Topics will include the state regulation of married, the role of child welfare services and other government institutions on familial relationships, who can and cannot call themselves a family, and how family law policies and doctrine perpetuates or alleviates discrimination and bias on the basis of race, class, gender, LGBTQ status, and other sources of identity.
