Intellectual Property: Copyright and Trademark
This course is designed for MLS degree candidates who are interested in learning the fundamentals of both copyright law and trademark law. A separate course introduces the other two primary intellectual property regimes: patent law and trade secret law. Copyright protects the expressive elements in everything from books to movies and music. Trademark law protects words, slogans, colors and other distinctive elements that might help consumers identify the specific products and services they seek. As we will explore, these systems together play a critical role not merely in commerce, but more richly in culture, policy, and society more generally. Students who are not pursuing the MLS degree may not enroll in this course.
